"I'm a Yankee, by gosh!"
Happy Fourth of July. It should be noted that James Cagney made Yankee Doodle Dandy to way-lay suspicions that he was a Communist (due to his aggressive Unionizing efforts) by making a very patriotic movie.
...and it's weird. For all the tough guy roles and the indelible moments Cagney produces with each and every film (and I've been grinning through many of them lately), it's this scene and his amazing athleticism and cockamamie grace that I think of first when I hear the name "James Cagney."

That stiff-legged gait when dancing (that you can really see at 1:49) is how I also remember song-and-dance Cagney. Thanks!
